They speak a language that in 2001 was declared to be among the most threatened on the planet. This people of fewer than twenty thousand individuals had the misfortune of finding itself at the center of the conflict zone that ravaged the country in 2002\u20132003 and then again in 2010\u20132011. This account retraces the transformation of the traditional way of life and the rapid evolution of a forest society that has found itself caught in the grip of a war between the northern and southern parts of the country, which has forced an entire population to adapt to a new and unstable situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Les Kouya de C\u00f4te d&#039;Ivoire, une conf\u00e9rence du Dr Denis Ramseyer au mus\u00e9e Barbier-Mueller\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xKIc83t_tII?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Denis Ramseyer, a lecturer (charg\u00e9 d\u2019enseignement) at the Universit\u00e9 de Neuch\u00e2tel and assistant director of the Lat\u00e9nium (2000\u20132016), holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in Ethnology-Archaeology-History and a doctorate in Prehistory. He discovered the C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire in 1971, at the age of nineteen. He has continued since then to take an interest in that country, especially the Kuya ethnic group, pursuing in succession photojournalism (1972), field research in ethnology (1975), and an ethno-archaeological study (1998). Since 2009 he has been working with the Mus\u00e9e des Civilisations and the Universit\u00e9 F\u00e9lix Houphou\u00ebt-Boigny in Abidjan, endeavoring to promote and preserve the heritage of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire. He has also facilitated the reintroduction of field studies and the training of young C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire researchers in the Human Sciences.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondation-culturelle-barbier-mueller.org\/IMG\/jpg\/kouya_ramseyer_3_.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Field research, photojournalism, notes, and regular correspondence with a Kuya interlocutor and friend have been patiently assembled over forty-five years. The world described in this book has in great part disappeared.
